IAB Brothers Console, Consult & Rebuild East Coast

When natural disasters strike, the power team behind IAB treats clients like one of their own.

Jim McCaffrey had spent 18 years building his Yardley supermarket, McCaffrey’s, into an area institution. Offering gourmet and organic items long before it was expected, the store was well liked by the community and, in turn, usually quite busy. Such was the case the afternoon of February 28, 2004, when shoppers headed in for weekend supplies were instead faced with a devastating fire.

Ripping through the building and eventually causing over $15 million in damage, the flames were more than a surprise to the owner. They were a life-changer.

“The details that are involved in something like [a fire] – was beyond overwhelming…I would have had to hire an entire staff to just document what we lost,” he says, adding it was a highly emotional time for himself, his family and his employees. But instead of hiring that team of hundreds, McCaffrey was quickly advised by his attorney to hire a public adjuster.

McCaffrey soon found a match in Ira Straff of Insurance Adjustment Bureau, Inc. (“IAB”), in Bala Cynwyd, PA. “He was introduced to me through a mutual friend, and the relationship was unbelievable,” recalls McCaffrey. “I can best descr

Test-Driving Chipotle’s New ShopHouse Eatery

“Toasted rice, crispy garlic, or crushed peanuts?”

I was at the sixth and final stage of my bowl-building process at ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen, a new eatery that had opened just six days earlier in Washington, D.C.’s Dupont Circle.

New restaurants aren’t particularly newsworthy, but this is the first concept that Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) has introduced outside of its burrito-rolling stronghold. Everyone’s watching ShopHouse the way a high school phenom athlete is being scouted. In a few years, both of them could be superstars.

For now, ShopHouse is still rough around the edges. The reviews have been mixed. Foodies who know the cuisine intimately argue that it isn’t authentic enough. Chipotle fans who expect a Tex-Mex approach to Asian cuisine are baffled by the strange flavors tickling their taste buds.

There are fans, though. I arrive at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday to a nearly empty restaurant (click that link to watch me order lunch for me and my colleagues). By the time I bow out roughly 20 minutes later, the queue stretches all the way to the front door.

Increasing your home security makes you less of a risk, and many insurers will discount premiums in return. Taking a long hard look at your home and how attractive or unattractive it may look to a burglar can also help.

A photo essay of Old Mother Kernow – that’s Cornwall

I dont get home to the motherland as often as I would like but have just found time to spend a long weekend there with my girlfriend, armed with my usual array of cameras including my standard weapon of choice: the Canon 50d equipped with a Canon 50mm prime lens, the sharpness of which is truly amazing! The thing is, it didnt actually make it out of my camera bag!

The reason the Canon became slightly ignored this weekend is due to taking delivery of my shiny new white iPhone! And then going into a camera app downloading frenzy. I downloaded Hipstamatic , Scratchcam and a few others the evening before leaving and was like a child with a new toy. Hipstamatic gives you a lovely lo-fi effect which i really like. I usually spend hours taking photographs with my £1000 DSLR and then spend many more hours making it look like they were taken on a £20 Russian charity shop camera. Not anymore thanks to these toy-camera apps.

I am a street photographer by choice, where the idea is to get the photograph without being seen! Thats not easy if you are using a large digital SLR. So the iPhone makes the perfect street photography and holiday camera. Its got a 5mp lens, there are some great apps for it and nobody seems to take any notice of you using it. Perfect.

Heres some of my iphoneography from the trip.

Lands End The end of the UK.
