Hybrid Market Share Shrinks, Diesel Grows in 2011

Auto sales in 2011 turned out to be pretty good for most automakers, including each of the Big 3. For the first time since 1988, all three domestic brands . The combined market share of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler came in at 47.2 percent, which was a significant rise from 45.1 percent in 2010.

Things werent quite as rosy for Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda, as both sold fewer cars in 2011 than they did in the year earlier. These automakers have led the way with hybrid technologies, with Honda introducing the first mass-produced hybrid automobile sold in the United States with the Insight in the 2000 model year. Toyota followed seven months later with the introduction of their Prius.

And for the second straight year, , despite the whopping increase in choices consumers have to pick from. Hybrid sales peaked in 2009. Back then, there were 17 different hybrid vehicles on the market. Now there are more than 30, yet hybrid vehicle sales decreased by 2.2 percent overall in 2011.

Hybrids sales have decreased, but diesel appears to be making a comeback in the U.S. market. Sales of new clean diesel automobiles in the U.S. increased by an impressive 27.4 percent in 2011 over 2010. An

Wedding bells for Backstreet Boy AJ McLean

A wedding insurance policy may have been invested in by AJ McLean ahead of his nuptials on Saturday (December 17th) at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.

The Backstreet Boys singer exchanged vows with his long-term girlfriend Rochelle Karidis at a gothic-themed ceremony.

In an interview with CBS News McLeans bandmate Howie Dorough said: “It was lots of fun. All the guys were there. We partied. We danced our butts off. It was great seeing another one of our guys go down that aisle.”

McLean has had a well-publicised battle with drink and drug addictions that saw him enter rehab twice.

However, it seems the groom has turned his life around and is happy to settle down into family life with Karidis.

As one fifth of Backstreet Boys, McLean enjoyed a string of hits with the band in the 90s, including I Want It That Way, The One and Larger Than Life.

How old do I have to be to get a driver’s license in Massachusetts?

That all depends on what you mean by getting a driver’s license. If you are just worried about getting your driving privilege, then you can get it at the age of 16 with a learner’s permit. However, you won’t be able to drive unsupervised until you get your intermediate license. The earliest you can get that license is 16 ½. However, that license is restricted. An unrestricted license is not available to you until you’ve reached the age of 18. At that point, you’ll be out of the Graduated Driver License program.

Why car insurance premiums are on the rise

Ontario is set to unveil no frills car insurance coverage that while cheaper also limits benefits.

Ontario drivers have good reason to be suspicious about the cost of auto insurance.

We are causing fewer collisions, and being robbed, vandalized and stone-chipped less often.

The cost of repairing collision damage inflicted by others did rise about 6.9 per cent over four years, compared with an overall price inflation rate of 6 per cent.

Yet far more us claimed to be injured and in need of hands-on care, financial assistance and relief from the day-to-day grind of returning to work, caring for children and keeping homes and lawns tidy.

Industry-wide insurance figures for 2010 indicate the number of claims for accident benefits — by both those innocent and at-fault — were 28 per cent higher than in 2006.

What’s more alarming is the cost of compensation, including insurers’ cost of administration, rose by nearly 71 per cent.

The combined effect of a 17,498 increase in claims and a $23,239 increase in the average claim cost equaled about $350 for each of the 6.6 million privately owned passenger vehicles, excluding those of farmers.

Motorists didn’t actually pay the full $2.4 billion increase in costs. If they had, their insurance premiums would have had to been higher by at least $925 million or $140 per car.

So insurers saw a steep drop in profitability. Hardest h

Engagement ‘on the cards’ for Britney Spears

One celebrity who may soon be looking into wedding insurance is Britney Spears, following reports Jason Trawick is planning to propose.

In an interview with Radar Online, a source claimed the 39-year-old has been browsing high-end designer jewellery stores for the perfect ring.

The insider stated: “He has been everywhere from Tiffany to Harry Winston looking for a ring.”

However, it was suggested Trawick is intending to select a “classy” band, with a diamond “under four carats”.

“Dont expect anything too massive or obnoxious,” the source added.

Spears, who is no stranger to marriage, may be keen to accept the proposal as a family friend recently told the news source the couple talk about getting hitched “all the time”.

The Womaniser singer first tied the knot in 2004 in a Las Vegas wedding chapel where she exchanged vows with her childhood friend Jason Alexander.

She later went on to have the union annulled and then wed her backing dancer Kevin Federline.
